We are kicking off the year with an array of outdoor festivals and exciting entertainment, get out and enjoy the marvelous weather, there's much to keep us all busy this month!
Hosted by the Miami Design Preservation League, the Art Deco Weekend is a tribute to the Art Deco era and involves a series of top notch events over this three-day weekend including the Parade, Fashion Show, the Art Deco VIP Gala, the Classic Car Show, children's performances, Films and Lectures, Furniture Exhibits, Music, Antiques, Street Festivals and more.
This year's theme is "Art Deco at Play" and it is all about toys, fun and games. There will be a special Vintage Toy Exhibit, "Toys will be Toys" talk events, and of course, toy building stations with Legos and Lincoln Logs, paper doll stations, a great time to be had for kids and the kid in all of us.
In addition, the League sponsors an array of great specialty tours offered uniquely during the weekend, such as:

How Much? Most of the events at the Art Deco Weekend are FREE, with the excpetion of the VIP Gala and the Specialty Tours.
One of the longest running art fairs in the region, now on its 63rd year, this will be a weekend filled with live music, great festival food, children's activities, and lots and lots of art for any budget featuring over 200 domestic and international exhibitors.
One of the highlights is the Student Artist Showcase, where students from all over Miami get to show their stuff.
Another perk this weekend: free admission to the Lowe Art Museum.
All funds raised are donated to the Lowe Art Museum.

Calling all chocolate lovers! This weekend is all about chocolate at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens.
Featuring cooking demonstrations and samplings as well as lots of activities for kids, learn how chocolate is made and hundreds of ways to cook with chocolate.

Chinese New Year is the largest festival in the Asian community calendar which this year welcomes the Year of the Horse.
Colorful celebrations featuring Lion Dances and Dragon Parades as well as cultural performances will take place over the traditional fifteen day holiday period all throughout South Florida. Chinese New Year Day is on January 31, 2014.
Lion Dances and parades are hosted by restaurants and martial art schools throughout the city. Other festivals, spiritual activities and cultural demonstrations are sponsored throughout the first two weeks of the new year.
The largest celebration takes place at Miami Dade College, Kendall campus, jointly hosted by the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Cultural Foundation in Miami. What can you expect? Lion Dances, tai chi demonstrations, calligraphy, face painting, acrobatics, arts and crafts, bounce houses ans slides, and of course, lots of food and the Dragon Parade.

Family Fun Fest is a FREE program at Biscayne National Park brought to you thanks to the many volunteers and park sponsors. It is held on the second Sunday of the month during the "dry and cool" season, December through April with lots of fun and educational activities for kids and adults alike. New for the 2013-14 season is "Family Fun Fest Junior" with lots of activities for toddlers and little ones!
This month's program is named "Wrestling With Trash", where we will be sending all marine debris to rest in peace...

The Circus is in town! Tigers, Elephants, Acrobats, Clowns...
This is an amazing spectacle, that certainly does justice to their motto "The Greatest Show on Earth"™.
Great family fun entertainment full of non-stop thrilling and exciting acts, just what a circus should be and more!
Don't forget to arrive at least a half hour before show-time for the pre-show event (which starts an hour before the performance), where kids can mingle and take pictures with the cast, i.e. elephants and clowns, try-out their juggling skills, or simply absorb all the fun atmosphere.

The second Saturday of every month is the day, or rather night, to visit this great up and coming neighborhood when the District does the "Art Walk".
Galleries are open to the public and host events, many serving refreshments and cocktails.
This entire area of the city is in constant change. It has been fun watching how it keeps evolving as it tries to find its identity. It is for the design and art lovers out there, as well as the well-heeled fashion trotters.
There is the art galleries, design showrooms, gourmet restaurants, and a roster of top-of-the-line fashion houses, all in a thriving compact area. Here's more on the Miami Design District.

Like its counterpart at the Miami Design District, Wynwood is an emerging neighborhood in a decaying part of town that has been revitalized and is transforming the art scene in Miami, but this is where the likeness stops.
Wynwood is best known for its street art and splashy murals and over 70 galleries and counting. Here's more on the Wynwood Art District.
On Second Saturdays, the place is on overdrive, crowds come to enjoy their art and their food trucks. A must for street art lovers, but if you are not into crowds, definitely not for you.
