The Columbus Day Regatta is a huge boating weekend in Miami attracting hundreds of participants in the races as well as a few thousand fans joining in the revelry and the parties popping all over Biscayne Bay from Key Biscayne to Elliot Key, which may or may not be related to the actual regatta races.
The races themselves take place over Saturday and Sunday.
The course is between the Quickflash marker just south of the Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne and Black Ledge in the south, just north of the Biscayne National Park boundary.
On Saturday, the vessels will race southwards from Quickflash to Black Ledge, and on Sunday on the opposite direction. The points will be marked with orange flags and a red Bacardi (the event's sponsor) mark.
Through the years, the event has given way to a massive Mardi Grass-like boating party that has drifted towards the banks of Elliot Key for a weekend jammed with boaters on (and in) the water, loud music, heavy drinking and clothing optional everything-goes crowd. The Elliott Key revelry is NOT part of the Regatta activities.
When?: Saturday and Sunday October 10 - 11, 2015.
Saturday races will start at 9:55 a.m. Starting point near Quickflash marker south of Rickenbacker Causeway in Key Biscayne.
Sunday races start at 10:55 a.m. Starting point is the previous day finish line near Black Ledge ending off Dinner Key.
Where?: On the water all along race course. Where to watch the races? The start and finish points are good places
The heavy partying area (not part of the Regatta activities) is along Elliot Key. Elliot Key although part of Biscayne National Park, is not associated with the Regatta activities. Needless to say, this is not a family event. The park has dubbed this the "most dangerous weekend of the year". If you are heading out please act responsibly and observe the special regulations in effect as there will be zero tolerance for violations.

Like its counterpart at the Miami Design District, Wynwood is an emerging neighborhood in a decaying part of town that has been revitalized and is transforming the art scene in Miami, but this is where the likeness stops.
Wynwood is best known for its street art and splashy murals and over 70 galleries and counting.
On Second Saturdays, the place is on overdrive, crowds come to enjoy their art and their food trucks. A must for street art lovers, but if you are not into crowds, definitely not for you.
When? Saturday October 10, 2015 - 6:00pm to 11:00 pm
Where? Roughly between Biscayne Boulevard and I-95 and NW 36th Street and NW 20th Street. CAUTION: The area surrounding the Wynwood District is a very doubtful neighborhood, please exercise caution when getting here and back.
